Company History

In 1926, Joseph Lieberman founded Lieberman Brush in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His three sons helped Liebco Brush become a nationally recognized name as professional painters throughout the country sought out the brushes and spread the word. Meanwhile, in the 1940’s and 1950’s, Mort Mauthe was making American’s first roller covers by nailing dense lambskin pelt to cylindrical pieces of wood. His company would become Bestt Rollr®, based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

In 1969, Joseph Lieberman and Sons acquired Bestt Rollr and became Bestt Liebco®, a full-line paint applicator company. In 1983, the three brothers sold Bestt Liebco to RAF Industries, a private investment firm. In 1988, RAF sold Bestt Liebco and Purdy (acquired in 1994) to Bessemer holdings.

In 2004, Sherwin Williams Corporation purchased Paint Sundry Brands from Bessemer Holdings.

Bestt Liebco has a strong reputation for meeting professional painters’ needs. We were the first to offer DuPont Orel® polyester as a painting filament in 1970. In 1989, we were the first company to use DuPont’s Chinex® bristles, which have since become recognized as the finest applicator filament available for applying today’s paints.

Likewise, our roller products have set industry standards for many years. Our Tru-Pro® roller covers were the first synthetic fabric roller covers in the U.S., and our Long John® mini-roller was the first of its kind and set the standard for the U.S. mini-roller market.

Bestt Liebco continues to produce quality products, adding paint trays, extension poles, mini-rollers and a variety of specialty paintbrushes and roller covers in the line.

DuPont™ and Chinex® are a registered trademark of E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company.
